We are on vacation and didn’t have our reusable bags (we nearly always brings bags, on vacation,  busineas trips, wherever we go) - so we hand carried everything.  Our friends wanted us to buy melon precut in plastic containers - nope, no plastic - got whole melons and they were tastier and fresher :-)

One option during this intermediate period as we transition away from oil-based plastic bottles is to purchase the product as a concentrate when possible. I have a terrible problem with deer so I purchase a one-gallon deer repellent. Yesterday, I discovered it comes in a 16 bottle of concentrate. So I bought that, poured it into the one-gallon I purchased last year and added water. Not only is it a  smaller bottle, using less plastic, but I saved $3!

Do some research on the toxic side affects of aluminum deodorant. After reading the side effects, can you think of instances where you may have experienced the side effects from this form of deodorant?

Aluminum can help to  cause kidney problems, breast cancer, Alzheimer disease as well as other adverse effects on the body preventing it from releasing the toxins through sweat

I looked it up on google and ask a medical friend about the findings of aluminum on the body.

Tapped reminded me about the social justice issues around the making of plastic bottles. Most PET bottles are made in Corpus Cristi Texas. The people that live there suffer terrible health problems related to the toxic wastes being produced by the plant. Time for a change of attitude toward all plastic bottles/packaging. New attitudes form new behaviors!!

Debi Duke asked me to share the homemade toothpaste recipe I modified and used.

    Natural Toothpaste Instructions
Melt or slightly soften coconut oil.
Mix in other ingredients and stir well. If using semi-hard coconut oil, use a fork, if not, use a spoon. If you are using completely melted coconut oil, you will need to stir several times while the mixture cools to keep the baking soda incorporated.
Put mixture into small glass jar (I make different ones for each family member)
    Let cool completely.
To use: dip toothbrush in and scrape small amount onto bristles. Could also use a small spoon to put on toothbrush.

We will see! I am currently using it interspersed with the toothpowder I use as I have a full bottle of it. I am going to look at dry powder recipes as well. Even before this, in the mornings (when we remember!) we have been putting a 1/2 tsp of coconut oil in our mouth and rub it into our gums!

I'd be interested in learning how you and your family like it over time -- I bought homemade toothpaste at a Farmers Market in Puerto Rico (it's baking soda, peppermint and coconut oil).  I find it works more easily in Summer when the coconut oil is sort.  In Winter I had to use a little spoon to put it on my toothbrush.
