REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Travel SmartHow can/did you prepare to be successful in this action? Did you engage in conversation with anyone about your new habit?
Jessica Wright 7/30/2019 8:21 AMYes! I was encouraged by Belinda, who also travels, to use a reusable water bottle. She even gave me info on where she found her awesome fold up water bottle. During a meeting with one of the offices this week we realized many people in the room had plastic drink bottles and the director saw my reusable bottle and reminded everyone to try and use reusable whenever possible. Always a good reminder! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Complete a Waste AuditWhat did you learn about the waste you create? Where can you reduce the most?
Jessica Wright 7/30/2019 8:16 AMMy husband and I realized that a lot of our plastic packaging accumulates from groceries!! This past weekend, we tried to be more mindful of choosing items in responsible packaging. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Keep My Community CleanHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Jessica Wright 7/17/2019 1:28 PMWhen you take the time to clean up your community, it shows you care! Others see what you are doing and are encouraged to do the same! A simple act of service can go a long way! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Sign a PetitionWhat is a plastic-related issue in your state/province?
Jessica Wright 7/17/2019 1:20 PMI just signed a petition for McDonald's to ban plastic straws! Imagine what a HUGE difference it would make for such a large conglomerate to take action. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Watch a DocumentaryWhich documentary did you choose to watch? What did you learn?
Jessica Wright 7/08/2019 4:03 PMI'm currently watching "Just Eat It: A Food Waste Story"--it's on amazon prime right now. The couple at the center of the story are trying to eat ONLY food that is either about to be thrown out or has been thrown out (i.e. from grocery stores, farmer's markets, restaurants, etc.) for 6 months. The documentary discusses how almost 1/3 of the world's food supply is wasted (almost 40% for the U.S.--that's crazy)! Traveling as much as I do for work, it can be difficult to plan out my meals/grocery shopping w/o wasting. Definitely something to think about! You don't have to start dumpster diving :-), but we should work to be more conscience of the food we waste at home and at work. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Skip the StrawHave you noticed a shift in your community as more messaging about reusable straws becomes mainstream? Cite some examples.
Jessica Wright 7/08/2019 3:19 PMI have definitely seen a shift, especially in my current home state of CA. At first, i think people thought the "straw-less" option is weird--starbucks moving to straw-less cups comes to my mind! As it becomes more frequent in our community I think people will adjust! Try to purchase reusable straws for at home use!-
Julie DeSilva 7/09/2019 9:04 AMThere are so many reusable or more responsible options. I think this is one change that can happen quick and make a big impact!

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use Reusables at WorkIt is often true that we only have control over our own actions and not the collective community. How can you lead by example when it comes to switching disposables for reusable dishes in your community?
Jessica Wright 7/08/2019 3:06 PMShare Ideas with each other--pictures, products and stories to get others excited for the cause! Lead by example! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use a Reusable Mug / Collapsible CupGreat job on getting rid of your disposable cup habit! How does it make you feel? What's next on your list to reduce your waste?
Jessica Wright 7/08/2019 3:02 PMI use Stasher bags instead of ziplock bags when packing food or putting away leftovers! Bee wax paper is also a great alternative!
