After a teammate TRIED to use a reusable tumbler at Chik-Fil-A today and was told she couldn't and then was given two styrofoam cups: one with ice and one with tea so she could fill her own tumbler, I was moved to do something I've been meaning to do for a while: I wrote Chik-Fil-A and told them to ditch the styrofoam once and for all!

Today is the final day of the challenge. What is your takeaway from it? What changes, if any, will you make permanently? Chime in!

I will continue to choose items that are more eco friendly, carry a reusable straw with me everywhere I go, and keep a stash of reusable bags in my trunk for the days I go shopping. These are simple lifestyle changes that will help "break up with the stuff that doesn't break down!"

Happily we have moved to compostable cutlery in our kitchen. However, it comes wrapped in plastic film! I reached out to the company, Green Wave International, and they said "We have looked at different packaging options and found them to be quite costly. Thanks for your feedback and we will continue to try and source better alternatives." Hopefully they will make good on that statement and look for alternatives!

How might thinking creatively help us address big systems problems - like plastic pollution - differently?

I applaud Panera Bread for offering the Go Green option to use your own cutlery/servingware and used that option today.

As a nation, companies and individuals need to slow down and stop thinking about convenience and more about climate. We all need to stop and ask, what can we do to limit waste, and how can we reuse, share, breakdown the waste we do create. We need to start thinking as a group rather than individuals.

How can you think outside the box (or bag!) when it comes to disposables?

I stopped using plastic wrap years ago and have been phasing out plastic storage containers, opting for glass. Still haven't figured out how to do plastic free on the lids though!

We had our first big event since trying to go plastic free in the office. We told the caterer not to bring plasticware and plates and used our own paper plates and compostable cutlery from our kitchen. We did not offer bottled water, we had pitchers and glasses. Good steps in the right direction!

What are the benefits of switching to bamboo toothbrushes? How would you implore others in your community to make this switch as well?

We moved from plastic to compostable cutlery in our kitchen, however, it comes packaged in plastic! Today I am going to find the contact information for the company and write and ask them to change that!
