San Francisco Zoo & Gardens

My kids and I watched the Netflix documentary Minimalism.  My daughter really enjoyed it, and we have decided to watch more of these types of documentaries together.  

Doing these challenges daily has changed my routine a bit but it is not hard at all.

The bad part is remembering to check in every day!

I've started seeing trash everywhere! I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing...

My favorite part of this challenge is seeing the impact it has made on my children.  Although I keep a box of ziplock baggies in the pantry (school field trips require everything to go in the trash), neither of my kids has used a baggie this summer.  They are taking the time to slow down and think about their actions...and a bit of mom side-eye...

One of the hardest parts of this challenge is realizing that I cannot be completely plastic-free.  I was really excited to order toilet paper and paper towels online that come wrapped in paper.  However, when I did a price comparison, they are double the cost of what I am currently paying!!!  At this time, I cannot justify that expense.  

YES! I see that people are not using/declining straws when offered to them and vendors are now using cups that don't require straws for the drinks that they make. 

Remembering to check in can be a challenge, but it is a good reminder - I nearly forgot to pick up my trash today, until I went to my dashboard!!

I think this challenge is a great reminder that each of can do at least more than one thing to help save the planet and not use any plastic!

My favorite plastic free switch so far has been switching the liquid dish soap in my house to bars of soap!
