Food

Food
Use a Reusable Mug / Collapsible Cup
I will avoid sending 4 disposable cup(s) to the landfill per day by using a reusable mug or bringing my own collapsible cup.

I will keep 4 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill per day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Family
Plastic Free Lunch Boxes
I will only pack reusable cutlery, drinkware and tupperware-like containers in my children's lunches to reduce plastic waste.
Food

I will watch a documentary film about waste with family and friends and talk about what we learned.

REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Watch a DocumentaryWhich documentary did you choose to watch? What did you learn?
Tracy Nappi 7/29/2019 8:48 PMMy kids and I watched the Netflix documentary Minimalism. My daughter really enjoyed it, and we have decided to watch more of these types of documentaries together. -
Tracy Nappi 7/25/2019 8:00 PMMy favorite part of this challenge is seeing the impact it has made on my children. Although I keep a box of ziplock baggies in the pantry (school field trips require everything to go in the trash), neither of my kids has used a baggie this summer. They are taking the time to slow down and think about their actions...and a bit of mom side-eye when they are in a rush and starting to reach for a baggie never hurts! -
Tracy Nappi 7/24/2019 10:00 PMOne of the hardest parts of this challenge is realizing that I cannot be completely plastic-free. I was really excited to order toilet paper and paper towels online that come wrapped in paper. However, when I did a price comparison, they are double the cost of what I am currently paying!!! At this time, I cannot justify that expense.-
Carol White 7/25/2019 5:32 AMYes, I'm finding the same. We do need to reduce our use of plastic but cannot be so focused on one thing that we lose sight of financial and health concerns. Quite early on someone posted that this challenge was very expensive as she was trying to replace so many things at once. I finally figured out that we just need to be aware of the problem, start where we can, and make this a life-long journey.

Tracy Nappi 7/03/2019 9:13 PMI just bought reusable produce bags, which has been on my family's to-do list for a while. My competitive daughter made me post this so we get more points...
