I love how much easier this got throughout the month. Forming some great habits 😊

I’ve noticed some restaurants not handing out straws unless you ask for them, which is great progress! Waiters also seem to understand when I tell them no thanks on the straw. I used to get weird looks and questions, but skipping the straw seems to be catching on.

Has anyone tried bar shampoo? I’m curious how it works.

Thanks, Tammy! I just ordered a few bars. I think I have my husband convinced to try them too!

I have been using Lush's solid shampoo bars for years.  Not only is zero plastic, cruelty free but a fantastic product.  Good luck!

I’ve been using since last year’s PFJ and it works great for me (JR Liggett’s brand).  I have fine, straightish hair in a chin-length bob that can get frizzy or limp in Texas humidity, but this shampoo seems to give nice body and no tangles.  I don’t even need conditioner. Hope you can find a good one, too!

I’ve been shopping on ThredUP instead of buying clothes at stores. They have brand name new items with the tags still on that could otherwise have gone to the landfill. They also accept gently used clothes. If they can’t sell your clothes, they will recycle them for you!

We produce most of our waste from packaging and single use items like tissues. I’m looking closer at packaging at the store and choosing recyclable materials. I’m also searching for composting options in our area.

I find myself not using straws very much anymore, which is an exciting new habit! I found a beautiful glass straw with a sea turtle in the zoo’s gift shop that I use when I need a straw. It’s a great conversation starter!

I can’t believe we’re already halfway through this adventure! The biggest challenge for me so far has been staying plastic free while traveling. It’s hard to plan ahead and still be spontaneous with friends and family.

What did you find out about your plastic consumption by using the calculator? What did or didn't surprise you?

I was excited that I use a lot less plastic than the average American, but I was really surprised at how our country’s plastic usage stacks up to the rest of the world. This was s great learning experience!

I’ve been skipping the straw consistently this month, and now the disposable cups seem so much worse. With this heat, I’ve been going through more water than I usually pack, and I’m on the lookout for places that will let you bring your own cup. Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts have both been great. Does anyone know of any other chains that are doing this?
