Fantastic Elastic Anti-Plastic

Family and friends

Our goal is to go as plastic-free as possible for every purchase we make for the 31 days of July, as well as to model for others various sensible ways of reusing the plastic wares we already own, or model clever uses of non-plastic alternatives (e.g., beeswax coverings instead of plastic wrap). We're not perfectionists, so we're not going to fixate on this obsessively; however, we do want to make it a meaningful challenge too, so we're serious about following through with the commitment.

I don’t shop every day, or eat out very often, so at didn’t have the opportunity to refuse plastic-wrapped food every day. I hope not shopping more than a couple of times a week is also seen as a positive action!

My drink at Laughing Planet (great food chain in Portland Oregon area , with healthy food served on actual plates with stainless flatware and glass glasses) came with a sturdy paper straw. 😊

Really love the bar shampoo and conditioner sampler still - by far the best fir me is the frizz wrangler shampoo and the guardian conditioner- very sleek and glossy hair, smell lovely, and doesn’t get dirty as quickly. Also like - in the body sampler - the pumice and tea tree oil scrub and the vanilla lavender deodorant, the sample of which is...

I forgot to bring along enough reusable bags today so ended up buying some new ones, including an insulated one for groceries. Also, when I bought dog food and greener dog waste bags, the clerk asked me if I wanted a bag. I like that sometimes they don’t assume you need one. 👍

Since I don’t shop for food every day and my challenges were mostly about food, that limited the number of points I can collect per day.

So I went shopping yesterday and didn’t have my mesh bags or a reusable shopping bag. So I just put the produce straight onto the bakers and then the checkout conveyor belt. And I thought, why is it that I think I need bags around my items? Will google whether there is a benefit to using bags, period.

Tried the beeswax wraps last night in two items and it works beautifully! Will buy some more soon!

I like my tooth powder! It cleans and rinses beautifully. :-) yes that is a plastic container but this will last a long time and it’s reusable and recyclable. Yay!

Today was my first successful shopping trip - this has been hard for me because it’s a new habit and frankly I’ve been exhausted. But today I made a list, used mesh produce bags and reusable shopping bags, and even bought a glass bottled kombucha instead of a plastic clad other beverage. It felt good to finally do this right! :-)
