This eco challenge  has definitely made me think twice about my convenience vs. the environmental impact of my choices.

It’s finally becoming a habit for me to remember to take my reusable bags into stores when I go shopping.

I got a big box delivered to me with lots of the sealed plastic bags full of air. I’m going to check around and see if there are businesses around who would like to reuse them.

A checker at a self-service store gave me a paper bag to use since I forgot my cloth bag in my car and then showed me a Livegreen fold-up metal straw with a rubber lining attached to his key chain which he purchased via amazon.com. I gave him my 350 Spokane button so he could look up our website. He was all excited because he thinks he can join us on the 2nd Tuesday of every month since he doesn’t work evenings or on Tuesdays.

At Sears today, the checker asked if I would like a bag for my purchase. I replied I didn’t need one and was trying not to use plastic. He then took my purchase a placed it in a royal blue cloth bag with Sears imprinted on it and said he put a bag of popcorn in it, too. I thanked him heartily. Just now, I checked my bag. The popped popcorn is sealed in a plastic bag.

bummer about the plastic bag but at least you're helping to get the word out! Maybe that cashier will think about it the next time he's at a store and decline a plastic bag he doesn't need :)

Sometimes it’s hard when I’m at someone else’s home to be plastic free when they hand me a ziplock bag of fresh picked apricots (which may have some worms in them) to take home.
