Tori's actions
Personal Care
Fresh as a Daisy
I will use deodorant either from a bar or a jar or I will make my own.
Food
Shop the Bulk Bins
I will purchase dry goods from the bulk section of my grocery store, and use my own containers to do so.
Food
Use Reusable Utensils
I will keep 1 plastic cutlery out of the landfill per day by using my own reusable cutlery.
Personal Care
That Was a Close Shave
I will replace my disposable razors with steel razors. Why not try using hair conditioner instead of shaving foam for that baby smooth feel?
Food
Plant a Garden
I will plant an herb or vegetable garden in my home, workplace, or community garden
Family
Discover Together
I will spend 15 minutes educating my family on the basics of living a reduced/no-plastic lifestyle.
Food
Cook a Zero-Plastic Waste Meal
I will prepare 1 meal(s) at home each day without using any items packaged in single-use plastic.
Personal Care
Just Say No
I will avoid buying toxic plastics, including polycarbonate, polystyrene and polyvinyl.
Food
Minimize Packaging
I will purchase food items with the least amount of packaging.
Create Your Own Action
Show us what you got
Have a team event where we bring in our favorite plastic free items, have activities about how much plastic waste the average American creates, and share tips for being plastic free. I wanted to do this because going plastic free can be daunting but with community support and education it becomes more attainable and fun.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Tori Bird 7/11/2019 10:42 AMI made a plastic free meal last night. I decided that for thea ea first attempt the easiest way to do this was to make a salad. I got grain from bulk bins in my reusable bags, picked veggies that were not packaged, and made a dressing from things from the bulk store. It was kind of hard to avoid plastic but the salad was delicious and a healthier choice than what I might have made otherwise. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care That Was a Close ShaveWhat have you noticed about the economic and social impact of switching to steel razors? Was there ever really a need for disposable razors, or do you think it was just a way to sell more things?
Tori Bird 7/10/2019 6:56 AMAfter the one time investment it is so much more affordable than disposables. The fact that it is also a significant waste reduction makes it even better. I'm having a hard time coming up with any reason why I was ever using disposables. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Minimize PackagingWith the added mindfulness of reducing your packaging, what have you noticed about the amount and type of single use plastics used for packaging when you shop in the grocery store?
Tori Bird 7/01/2019 3:23 PMSo many things are packaged in multiple layers of plastic all of which seem largely unnecessary. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Plant a GardenBesides having access to fresh herbs and vegetables, what benefits will you see from growing your own garden?
Tori Bird 7/01/2019 3:22 PMTaking care of something feels good. Also not having to get a giant bunch of cilantro that I can never get through.-
Gina Phillips 7/02/2019 4:18 PMPlus you know what is ON it (IE: pesticide free!)
