How can this be the last day of July?! Cannot wait for today's office ice cream party - bulk ice cream to scoop into real bowls instead of plastic-wrapped individual treats!

Happy to welcome Grensboro's Recycling Educator to our museum today to lead a "lunch and learn" session for staff. It's a great time to update everyone on what our city recycles and how the program works.

    Food Start Composting
Do an inventory of how much food waste you would save from going to the landfill if you start composting all of the time. What are the added benefits of having compost that is readily accessible?

As a vegetarian, a LOT of my trash is stuff that can be composted. Since I’m attempting to grow some of my own food in our little garden, it just makes sense that I make my own compost. I won’t have to buy it (it’s sold in plastic bags) and I’ll save room in my own trash bag to put only the things that really need to go to the landfill. Win!

    Family Swap the Snacks
How does swapping out prepackaged snacks for fresh fruit or veggies benefit your family?

Most prepackaged snacks are junk food, so swapping them for fresh fruits is an eco friendly and healthier option. I’m still struggling a bit with the fact that a lot of fruits my kids eat come in plastic containers. I am successfully growing my own strawberries, though!

Ordered bamboo toothbrushes for myself and my husband yesterday! They are supposed to be shipped in all recyclable materials and the company plants a tree for every order made!

Forgot to bring a bag to Target, but managed to awkwardly carry my few items without one!

    Lifestyle Travel Eating
Was this action easy or difficult to do? How did it change your travel experience?

This was easy only because the hotel I was at provide full meals for breakfast and dinner and was also an extended stay suite so had a full kitchen with fridge, cooking equipment, and real dishes.  Certainly would be harder in a room with less amenities.  Also, access to nearby grocery location was limited where I was at so that would have been a challenge without a car.

I purchased two mascaras that were in cardboard boxes.  I purchased two lipsticks that did not have any exterior packaging.  However, the tubes themselves are made of plastic.  :(

Only had one take-out container from traveling this week.  But was from a very eco-friendly place and it was made of recycled cardboard and I washed it and put it in recycling when done.
