What I noticed today is that the greater part of our grocery bill was the food for our pets. Yikes, eye opener!!

REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyleAs you have reduced your spending, what have you noticed about your 'health and safety' purchasing habits? How might this change your longer term purchasing decisions?
Karen Schenk 7/27/2019 9:20 AMToday is grocery shopping day. My husband is the master of deals and coupons, and so with great effort these past few weeks he has worked hard to limit purchases to needs only. Kudos to Mr. Schenk.
What I noticed today is that the greater part of our grocery bill was the food for our pets. Yikes, eye opener!! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFamilyWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Karen Schenk 7/24/2019 5:35 PMMy greatest concern both locally and globally is the detriment that we have placed the natural world in, the plants and the wildlife... irriversable damage.-
joy kotheimer 7/27/2019 6:51 AMSome definitely takes more time to recover, and some species in more trouble than others. More are realizing this and the wave of this movement makes a big difference!

REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Karen Schenk 7/24/2019 5:15 PMPicking up litter makes me feel lighter, knowing I didn't just pass it by. If I am walking with someone and I pick up litter, pretty soon they are picking up litter too... it's contagious, it's easy and it makes everything look better. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodSingle use plastics have become normalized in our society to the point that most people don't see them as a problem. What would you say to a friend, colleague, or family member who may not understand why these disposables are an issue?
Karen Schenk 7/20/2019 5:28 AMI would explain how I didnt realize it either, but then learned more, and when I realized how plastic ends up in our bodies and in our wildlife and is responsible for the death of much wildlife, than I felt the need to make change in my life with many simple actions that have a big impact. It's helpful to be able to share facts or images. -
Karen Schenk 7/20/2019 5:20 AMI am off to a very delayed start. I thought life after kids graduating high school would mean I had time. But summer means outside maintenance, a garden to grow, college kids return home and there are friends and family to visit with. It's all wonderfully busy and somehow chaotic!! I love it!!
But I am here now, and happy to report that as I checked off things I already do daily, I feel like less of a bad human.-
