REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Watch a DocumentaryWhich documentary did you choose to watch? What did you learn?
Pam Neild 7/31/2019 12:01 PMI watched a Bea Johnson TED Talk with my family. Event weeks later, my nine year old keeps bringing it up. Yesterday, for example, she reminded me that if she had fewer clothes she could just fold everything up, put it in a suitcase and go. Less stuff = happy mom and happy family! I'm glad this challenge encouraged me to show the video to the whole fam. -
Pam Neild 7/24/2019 9:55 AMFeeling inspired by these kids this morning. We can't leave behind a dead planet behind for our kids to clean up. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p078tv89 -
Pam Neild 7/17/2019 9:15 AMI found this blog post very inspiring. https://gippslandunwrapped.com/2016/09/12/simple-zero-waste-ways-to-store-food/
My pantry and storage containers are not all glass quite yet, but I'm nearly there. I've picked up mason jars over the years and IKEA stocks some nice large glass storage jars that we use for granola and pasta. I found some really nice (leak-free) glass storage containers at Costco many years ago as well. -
Pam Neild 7/16/2019 1:13 PMI'd like to add reusable produce bags to my birthday wish list. I'd like them to be see thru, washable and durable. Does anyone have a brand they can recommend?-
Carol Lane 7/25/2019 9:36 AMI see a lady at the store sometimes who has this cool retro-70's looking rainbow bag that looks like it was made from a net...maybe cotton? it has a rope around the top that can cinch the bag shut and she uses it as the strap over your shoulder or you could probably even wear as a backpack. I can't speak to recommend or not but she must like it!

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use Reusable UtensilsHow can you be an advocate for using resusables instead of disposables for the rest of your community? Where are they currently dependent on disposable cutlery, and how can you convince them of the need for change?
Pam Neild 7/16/2019 1:10 PMWhen I used my handy, dandy lunch kit today, I purposely left it out on the lunch table for all to see. I didn't brag or shame anyone, I just casually left it visible. I think that being a role model is one of the best ways we can show our community how it's done. -
Pam Neild 6/26/2019 10:54 AMWow, City of Portland. I felt such pride when I logged in this morning to see that nearly 50 of you have signed up to take this challenge. One of my biggest hurdles has been to put together a "mess" kit to carry around for times when I or my family needs a spoon or fork on the go. Seeing all of your amazing commitments finally got me over the hurdle. Note: Ironically, these are mostly plastic utensils, but they were extras that I had laying around the house. I will replace them with more durable alternatives when and if they wear out. Thanks for the inspiration!!
