Kaitlin's actions
Food
Use Reusable Water Bottles
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 2 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Food
Skip the Straw
I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill per day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Food
Use Reusables at Work
I will use reusable dishes and silverware when eating at work.
Personal Care
Pretty oh so Pretty
I will purchase beauty products that are packaged in sustainable packaging.
Pets
All Natural Pet Toys
I will give my pets natural alternatives to toys like femur bones and antlers, canvas, natural rubber, hemp, rope or cotton toys. Or I will make our own toys from recycled items found in our home!
Personal Care
Back in the Bowl
I will purchase refillable beauty products.
Lifestyle
Travel Smart
If traveling, I will bring my own plastic free items (water bottle, grocery bags, collapsible food containers, utensils, straws, etc.) with me.
Lifestyle
Homemade Cleaners
I will make my own cleaning products at home.
Personal Care
Just Say No
I will avoid buying toxic plastics, including polycarbonate, polystyrene and polyvinyl.
Lifestyle
Support a Sharing Economy
I will create or support a sharing economy with family, friends, and neighbors.

REFLECTION QUESTIONPets All Natural Pet ToysIn what ways is supplying your pet with all natural pet toys better for your pet, better for you, and better for the environment?
Kaitlin German 7/31/2019 6:15 AMSocks with holes or lost mates make great tug toys for our pup. It lets us extend the life of something I would normally throw away- always a good choice. She's also not eating tiny pieces of plastic, which can't be digested and could end up as microplastics in the environment. Bits of cotton or wool are more likely to break down. -
Kaitlin German 7/31/2019 6:09 AMWe made it to the end! Personally, I felt more connected with the program this year, and managed to check off challenges every day but one. Next year, I'll try to choose harder/higher value challenges to make a bigger difference. -
Kaitlin German 7/23/2019 7:20 AMI've been looking for used furniture rather than buying new for a renovation we're doing. I didn't think of that as an environmental choice, rather an economic one, but from the challenge "supporting a sharing economy," it definitely is!
