Sheila Campbell 7/18/2019 9:30 AMI recently visited Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers for the first time and was appalled at all of the single use, unrecyclable plastics used there. If you frequent Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers, rethink your patronage. They use single use plastics worse than any other fast food restaurant I know--using Styrofoam containers for their meals, in addition to plastic straws and utensils and the ubiquitous plastic bags. -
Sheila Campbell 7/18/2019 6:47 AMDo you know how handy white vinegar is for cleaning. Not only is it cheap, but it will clean up soap scum in the shower, clean windows streak-free especially if you use newspaper to dry the windows. Cleaning floors with vinegar is a natural, chemical-free way to remove dirt and grime. I use it to clean my cutting boards. Clean microwave stains by placing 1/2-cup vinegar and 1/2-cup water in a glass bowl. Microwave 2-3 minutes, or until it boils. Wipe buildup away. Use it to clean your showerhead: Pour some white vinegar into a plastic bag, and secure it to your showerhead with a twist-tie. Make sure there's enough vinegar so the bottom part of the showerhead is submerged. Leave the bag on overnight. Remove the next morning just before showering. I love vinegar. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Cook a Zero-Plastic Waste MealDo an inventory of your kitchen to see how many single-use plastics you've used in the past. What are some resuable alternatives to these commonly used products? What would your impact be if you switched all the single-use products from your inventory to reusable?
Sheila Campbell 7/09/2019 9:40 AMReducing trash for the landfill is my goal. I even re-use aluminum foil even tho it is recyclable. It washes up nicely and can be reused several times. Cloth napkins work quite well. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Skip the StrawHave you noticed a shift in your community as more messaging about reusable straws becomes mainstream? Cite some examples.
Sheila Campbell 7/09/2019 9:36 AMI'm starting to notice that straws are not always offered at restaurants. Aladdin's in Grandview did not offer us straws the last 2 times we were there. Yay, Aladdin-
joy kotheimer 7/09/2019 5:41 PMThat’s great! Good shout out and recommends plastic free goers a place to dine!

Sheila Campbell 7/08/2019 8:27 AMUsing compostable bags for kitty litter waste was a no-brainer. Why didn't I think of it sooner? -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Plant a GardenBesides having access to fresh herbs and vegetables, what benefits will you see from growing your own garden?
Sheila Campbell 7/01/2019 8:14 AMGrowing cukes, cherry tomatoes, basil, parsley that have no chemicals. Using grass cuttings as mulch between rows to hold moisture and to cut down on weeds. AND watch the pollinators love my nasturtiums! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFamily Swap the SnacksHow does swapping out prepackaged snacks for fresh fruit or veggies benefit your family?
