My 3 year old reminded me halfway through our shopping trip that we forgot our bags in the car. When I got frustrated over forgetting them, she told me "its ok, we'll try again next time!" We ended up having the cashier put the groceries in the cart without bags and just transferred them to the bags when we got to the car. She told me...

Holy moly, our food definitely creates more plastic waste than anything else! I get the convenience of pre-packaged portions (especially our kids snacks), and helping the food last longer but a little bit of convenience is doing a lot of damage. I fully plan to start buying in bulk when possible to eliminate extra packaging, as well as find...

You'd think this challenge is super easy, right? Well, with two toddlers to account for, usually remembering to bring our reusable bags into the store doesn't even cross my mind until we're in the process of checking out. I keep the bags in the trunk, but I plan to start keeping them in the passenger floor to help me remember them for even the...

Despite forgetting to check in some days, we're on day 8 of picking up at least 3 pieces of trash in our neighborhood!  Want to know how I can tell I'm already making a difference? Last night on our walk I was a little distracted and didn't even think about our daily pick-ups, but my daughter yelled "Mommy, stop! I need to get out!"...

I notice that very few of my intended purchases have been for health and safety. I will apply this rule to all my intended purchases from now on. It will e interesting to see the effect of this change over the next few weeks!

SOLID SHAMPOO ... I found a packaging-free shampoo bar by HumanKind, and asked my local healthfood store to stock it for me. According to Humankind, a single change to my morning routine canshape our planet's future. In one year, eliminating shampoo packaging will eliminate 5 lbs of single use plastic waste from landfills."

Lots of plastic bottles in soap and shampoo products. Let's see if the local health food market has these products as unwrapped bars... be back soon with  more info...

On the first day of the challenge I found that I was automatically accepting plastic without thinking. Oh no! By the third day with my reminder bracelet, I was more mindful. As extra insurance, when I reach for my wallet, I have to get past the folded up totebag in my purse as well. Success! At one store I refused the plastic bag and also the...

I need more reminders. So my reusable containers, tote bags and litter gear are now handy in the front seat of the car. I also am going to wear a certain bracelet to remind me to proactively refuse straws  at restaurants.

I take responsibility for the sidewalk and the gutters in front of my house because I belong to that place and care about it, and I care about the people who come to my house. There is nothing unusual about that. Yesterday, I put a pair of work gloves and a reusable trash bag in my tote so that when I see litter I can clean it up safely. Going...
