  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Lifestyle Buy Only What I Need
As you have reduced your spending, what have you noticed about your 'health and safety' purchasing habits? How might this change your longer term purchasing decisions?

I have impulsed bought before, but that is changing. I'm very conscious of buying only what I need/want within reason now.

Went to farmers market this weekend and bought bulk berries. I LOVE doing this, as opposed to buying the berries in grocery stores that are contained in plastic!

Oops, I didn't realize I should check in daily. Some of my actions require me going to the store, which is happening later this week, but it's on my mind daily!

I didn't realize it either and honestly it's a little hard checking in daily but oh well, let's just do the best we can ;)
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Lifestyle Homemade Cleaners
What did you learn by making your own cleaning products? What is the biggest difference in making vs buying?

I have not made a ton of  my own cleaning products, so I'd love to get more recipes.  It's very satisfying though, to not be buying more plastic bottles!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Cook a Zero-Plastic Waste Meal
Do an inventory of your kitchen to see how many single-use plastics you've used in the past. What are some resuable alternatives to these commonly used products? What would your impact be if you switched all the single-use products from your inventory to reusable?

One area that I see my single use plastic is in frozen items.  We used to buy packaged lunch meat and I asked my partner to ease up on that, and I'll cook the whole food.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Shop the Bulk Bins
How has buying bulk impacted the quality of the food you receive? Why do you think Western society relies more on prepackaged foods rather than buying in bulk?

We are a culture of convenience, for sure, and I have been guilty of falling into that. However, I've been buying more things in bulk and I feel better about it every time I do so. There is still much for me to improve on, so that's why I'm here!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Personal Care Pearly Whites
Currently most of the packaging for toothpaste is plastic. How can you advocate for more alternatives through your purchasing power and influence in community?

I have made my own toothpaste before and have purchases from sustainable companies. I try to post on my facebook feed and encourage others, but it seems like it falls on deaf ears and I get discouraged. Being here with everyone taking action makes me feel so much better!
