The research part was the most challenging part because, as this is a relatively long-term investment (for make up at least), I wanted to find the perfect one. In the perfect world, i would be able to try the mascara first because I have particular needs for my tiny, heavy, self-straightening lashes, but I just went for it. Hoping this purchase will allow me to stop buying any other non-refillable mascara and allow me to keep supporting this fantastic brand!

REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care Back in the BowlWhy is it so difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places? How might your experience with this challenge impact your future consumption and choices?
Brittany Tse 7/25/2019 9:56 AMI finally did it! I've been putting this off for YEARS now so I'm excited to try these when they arrive.

REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Watch a DocumentaryWhich documentary did you choose to watch? What did you learn?
Brittany Tse 7/22/2019 1:34 PMWhile I have been interested in and a proponent of sustainable fashion, The True Cost shows a holistic, global view of the fashion industry and sense how prevalent externalities of each part of the fashion industry's supply chain is in various populations/regions/consumers/manufacturers/distributors around the world. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Natural FibersWhat are the benefits (to people, animals, and the environment) of purchasing clothes made with natural fibers?
Brittany Tse 7/22/2019 1:01 PMWhile I am not buying any new clothes yet (I have enough), I did get a set of organic natural fiber dish cloths! They work much much better than my older ones that had synthetic fibers, which basically just push messes around, rather than soaking them up. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Travel EatingWas this action easy or difficult to do? How did it change your travel experience?
Brittany Tse 7/22/2019 12:58 PMPacking travel snacks allows me to be more health conscious! The only small inconvenience is the space the snacks take in my bag when I am trying to have a light carry-on, but juts remind myself that a burden in my bag is a burden off my health and the planet!
Another thing to keep in mind is that, for international travel, some fruits and nuts are allowed across borders so don't bring large amounts for the trip! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Advocate For More Food Packaging OptionsSingle use plastics have become normalized in our society to the point that most people don't see them as a problem. What would you say to a friend, colleague, or family member who may not understand why these disposables are an issue?
Brittany Tse 7/22/2019 12:53 PMI would say, Plastic is a double-edge sword. It's incredible because, it's cheap, durable, and long lasting. It's also horrific for all those reasons. One way to depict this is looking at the plastic litter on our streets and imagining that plastic litter inside our homes. Then apply that understanding and broader thinking to the environment, which is the home for many other living creatures. While there may seem to be a time and place for plastic, there was a time when we didn't have plastic so cheaply and readily available - how can we improve our lifestyles and habits by harking back to those times that prove that a plastic-free or plastic-reduced lifestyle is possible and, usually better!
P.S. I also signed this petition for Traders Joe's to continue to reduce their plastic use! https://www.change.org/p/trader-joe-s-reduce-plastic-packaging?utm_content=cl_sharecopy_13734319_en-US%3Av2&recruiter=982754785&recruited_by_id=a314dca0-a32d-11e9-afbd-5ddc1618c687&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=copylink&utm_campaign=psf_combo_share_abi&share_bandit_exp=abi-13734319-en-US&share_bandit_var=v1 -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Make Your OwnHow do you feel about being more involved in the food preparation process? Joyful, overwhelmed, engaged, empowered? What are the benefits of choosing to process or produce your own food instead of buying it pre-processed?
Brittany Tse 7/02/2019 9:36 AMMade my own brownies yesterday from bulk oatmeal, cacao powder, cinnamon, almond meal, etc. Added organic bananas and stevia for sweetness. It was relaxing, fun, and encouraged me to go visit my sister (15 min drive away) to share - yay for impromptu family bonding! I also got to make it a healthy, less sweet version and I knew exactly what was going into my belly - it's empowering.
