REFLECTION QUESTIONPets Pet WasteBy composting your pet waste, you are turning waste into nutrients to feed the soil. In what other ways can you turn waste into a resource in your life?
Christa Torres 7/31/2019 9:06 AMA good way to turn waste into a resource would be a at home compost. I live in an apartment but I have encouraged my parents who own a home to start doing, so they can use it for their garden instead of purchasing fertilizers, which can carry chemicals. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Start CompostingDo an inventory of how much food waste you would save from going to the landfill if you start composting all of the time. What are the added benefits of having compost that is readily accessible?
Christa Torres 7/31/2019 9:02 AMBenefits of having a compost readily available it help reduces your carbon footprint, which can cause methane emissions in landfills if your waste ends up there. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Lobby for ReusablesWhat are some of the cases you could make to an employer for why switching to durable dishes and utensils is actually in their best interest as well?
Christa Torres 7/31/2019 8:58 AMIt's best to switch to durable dishes because you can reuse them and the dishes and utensils will be able to last longer in the long run. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care Brusha Brusha BrushaWhat are the benefits of switching to bamboo toothbrushes? How would you implore others in your community to make this switch as well?
Christa Torres 7/26/2019 1:42 PMThe benefits to switching to bamboo toothbrush is the components are made from plants, meaning they are biodegradable. I would let people know that the toothbrush is not made from plastic, which is not good for landfills instead they are made from plants. -
Christa Torres 7/24/2019 2:56 PMChallenge has been going great. I have managed to stop wasting food and save money at the same time.

REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Complete a Waste AuditWhat did you learn about the waste you create? Where can you reduce the most?
Christa Torres 7/24/2019 2:52 PMI learned that waste that I create can be easily avoided. There are things that we've never even used in my apartment but still purchased for whatever reason. I think where I can reduce the most waste would be food. Which has been one of my challenges is not buying prepacked foods. I see more room in my cabinets & fridge. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Shop the Bulk BinsHow has buying bulk impacted the quality of the food you receive? Why do you think Western society relies more on prepackaged foods rather than buying in bulk?
Christa Torres 7/24/2019 2:49 PMIt's honestly been the same quality but less trash to throw away. I think Western Society has relied on prepackaged food is because it's easy and convenient. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Advocate For More Food Packaging OptionsSingle use plastics have become normalized in our society to the point that most people don't see them as a problem. What would you say to a friend, colleague, or family member who may not understand why these disposables are an issue?
Christa Torres 7/02/2019 1:19 PMsingle use plastics are bad due to the harmful effects it is causing to our planet. Almost all plastics end up in landfills, oceans and waterways. Worst part is that they are not biodegradable, instead they break up into smaller pieces. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Takeout ProHow could you mitigate issues that may arise if the restaurant does not want to let you use your own containers at first?
Christa Torres 7/01/2019 2:57 PMI will try my best to have them reason with me that I do not want to consume the plastic/foam material and perhaps bring my own reusable plastic container, but maybe I can call ahead. Or if I am not to hungry I will try my best to order a small portion or share my entree with my friend, boyfriend and family.
