I’m feeling good. I just need to watch a documentary with my family.

What did you learn by making your own cleaning products? What is the biggest difference in making vs buying?

I learned that a lot of cleaners can be made with ingredients I already have at home. It was also nice to learn from Jennifer the importance of diluting acidic ingredients based on the type of surface it will be cleaning.

The biggest difference is cost and knowing all the ingredients in the solutions made at home (vs commercial products that limit the listed ingredients).

I hope I didn't over-emphasize that... I've etched porcelain myself by not diluting!

I used a shampoo bar for the first time. It was an interesting experience and I’m trying to figure out how it affects my hair.

I will be curious to hear how that goes! I worry it might dry my hair out too much.

Meal planning has definitely helped and so has carrying around a reusable cup and straw.

It’s going well. I even started a “Sustainability “ Pinterest board.

Currently most of the packaging for toothpaste is plastic. How can you advocate for more alternatives through your purchasing power and influence in community?

Encourage friends and family to try the plastic free alternatives based on my experience. I can share this information in person or over social media.

I believe I’m making progress in eliminating plastics. I’ve even purchased a reusable bag for bulk purchases.

Do some research on polystyrene and polyvinyl. How many items in your house already contain these toxins?

Thankfully, I cannot think of anything in my home made with polystyrene and I know a lot of my home piping has polyvinyl. Our dishes are ceramic, clay, and glass. However, my daughter’s dishes are plastic (bpa free) for durability. This is something I’m working to change.

Sometimes plastics serve a good function though. And when she is older, you can always donate those dishes to a family in need to help reduce overall demand for new plastic stuff! :D

I brought my lunch to work in reusable containers to avoid one-time use plastics.
