OPB posted a nice article about solutions for reducing plastic pollution. Enjoy! https://www.opb.org/news/article/plastic-pollution-solutions-recycling-bans-alternatives/#.XUGsg_DVpxY.mailto

Have you seen Metro's new outreach tool? https://www.recycleornot.org/ It is focused on the 30 most confusing items to let people know if they are recyclable or not. You can also use the site to contact them directly with photos of things you are unsure about. (Keep in mind that some things marked as "NOT" can be recycled through special collections or reused, but this is designed for people who just want to know which bin to put it in at their home or apartment.)

    Food Minimize Packaging
With the added mindfulness of reducing your packaging, what have you noticed about the amount and type of single use plastics used for packaging when you shop in the grocery store?

It is good to find that there are often more alternatives than you might think at the grocery store. For instance, you can buy dried pasta in a plastic bag (non-recyclable), a cardboard box (recyclable), or bulk (use your own bags).

    Food Use Reusable Containers
How can you think outside the box (or bag!) when it comes to disposables?

It's good to keep in mind that many "disposables" are actually reusable. Two that come to mind are freezer ziplock bags (I wash an reuse these for many years) and Talenti ice cream containers (they are made from hard plastic and have a screw on lid, so I reuse mine over and over for freezing soup in lunch portions or other food storage).

Pro Tip: I recently learned that clean, dry durable drink cups can be used at places with on-site space for consuming beverages but only disposable cups provided. We successfully used our Kleen Kanteen pint glasses at BG Cartel in Beaverton.
