Erica Risberg 7/31/2019 11:56 AMThis challenge has brought so much awareness to make sure I do my habits of plastic free stuff daily! Thank you!!! -
Erica Risberg 7/26/2019 11:20 AMI'm grateful for how this challenge has helped me increase my awareness about plastic usage. I'm much more mindful (I thought I was before) than I was at the beginning of the month. Thank you! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Complete a Waste AuditWhat did you learn about the waste you create? Where can you reduce the most?
Erica Risberg 7/22/2019 8:28 AMI need to use less paper products. That's the biggest takeaway. I'm pretty good with composting, recycling and using my TerraCycle boxes. -
Erica Risberg 7/10/2019 5:30 PMSo far, the challenge is definitely upping my awareness, which is awesome! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care Back in the BowlWhy is it so difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places? How might your experience with this challenge impact your future consumption and choices?
Erica Risberg 7/09/2019 8:34 AMI feel that the reason it’s so hard is complex. Many people are overwhelmed in their lives. They work, watch news and shows that put them in an emotional state of fear. They’re also disconnected from their outside environments. I’d you don’t know who’s growing your food, spend time outside, and mediate, you’re probably not going to be aware of the interconnectedness of life, so you’re not going to understand that your actions affect more than you.
As for how this challenge is affecting me, it’s helping me up my existing practices more so I can really minimize my impact on the planet. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care Tim Taylor Your Beauty ProductsHomemade makeup is a practice which has been done in community for thousands of centuries as many indigenous women relied on plants for their bright make up. How can you incorporate that sense of community as you embark on a similar pursuit?
Erica Risberg 7/09/2019 8:29 AMI make a fair amount of products at home, and am planning to teach a little of what I have learned upon returning from my vacation.-
Kim Smith 7/09/2019 5:42 PMThat sounds very interesting! I would like to learn more.

REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care Fresh as a DaisyDo some research on the toxic side affects of aluminum deodorant. After reading the side effects, can you think of instances where you may have experienced the side effects from this form of deodorant?
Erica Risberg 7/09/2019 8:28 AMMy thyroid was hypo active which started acting normally when I switched to non-aluminum deodorant. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care Pearly WhitesCurrently most of the packaging for toothpaste is plastic. How can you advocate for more alternatives through your purchasing power and influence in community?
Erica Risberg 7/09/2019 8:26 AMI am constantly sharing what I do to help others shift in to greater awareness of their behaviors. I do so in a helpful, non judgements way. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Shop the Bulk BinsHow has buying bulk impacted the quality of the food you receive? Why do you think Western society relies more on prepackaged foods rather than buying in bulk?
Erica Risberg 7/09/2019 8:24 AMI love the extra care I bring in to shopping in bulk. I buy what I need so I’m not as wasteful.
I think we’ve been conditioned to reach for plastic for ease without being educated about how it impacts the environment for years. In addition, we’re consuming so much information, that making conscious choices is something that is perceived as hard or one more thing that a lot of people are too scared or tired to implement. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Travel ToiletriesWhat is the benefit of using bar soaps or refilling your travel sized containers? Is this an action you think you will keep in your life?
