Last night at a restaurant that claims to only give straws if asked, I asked the waiter for no straws so he took them back after depositing them uninvited onto our table. He brought me a refill later with a straw already inside, said "Oops, no straw," and grabbed the wet straw from my drink and put it into his apron! I guess he completely missed the point :(

It is really hard to not use one-time use things while you are on vacation! I was able to avoide plastic bags and straws most days but not plastic cups and other containers :(

One of our co-workers (who is not participating in this challenge :( )spoke with an employee from SWA yesterday as they were putting flyers out at her apartment building about recycling. The worker said they hadn't picked up the building's recycling because it was done so incorrectly it wasn't worth picking up. What the employee learned is that if you call SWA to report something they take it seriously and will do what they can to remedy the problem so don't be afraid to speak up!

Yesterday I had to plan my take home food carefully as I only had one reusable container with me. I did it, but I understand people who do not want to put in the effort! If we could get restaurants to be more responsible with their take out containers then maybe it would send a message to others.

I have noticed that a few restaurants SAY on their menus they will only give straws if you ask but then the server sets one down on the table anyway. Very frustrating! So I emailed the restaurant I was at yesterday to see what they have to say about it and will let you know what happens!

I am noticing more restaurants along the beach are not giving out plastic straws even though we haven't passed a law... yet :)
