Eating out with whole group on family visit made it hard to impossible to avoid some plastic: a water bottle, straws already in drinks, plastic drink containers.

I AM TRYING TO ELIMINATE ALL KINDS OF SINGLE USE PLASTICS, INCLUDING SODA BOTTLES AND PLASTIC WRAP.  I HAVE NEW REUSABLE FOOD COVERS THAT REALLY WORK WELL FOR DISHES AND EVEN FOOD.  AND I  USE FOIL WHEN THE COVERS WON’T WORK.

Having a commitment not to use plastic water bottles, shopping bags, plastic wrap, etc. makes it easier to remember not to use them.  But there are still things that come in plastic that I can’t seem to avoid.  I am trying to figure out how to buy produce without paying a fortune.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Use Reusable Water Bottles
Using the links provided, investigate the bottling practices of water corporations. There have been many cases where the water rights of the local people have been violated or even completely disregarded when a corporation decides to bottle water from a particular water source. How can you advocate for those who have been harmed by this bottling process?

Why is this goal simply water bottles?  What about soda, tea, other beverages?

I do well with plastic bags except when I buy very large things, like throw pillows.  Since I order online and pick u in the store, they are already in large bags.  But I save the bags to take donations to DAV site, which salves my consciences.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Make Your Own
How do you feel about being more involved in the food preparation process? Joyful, overwhelmed, engaged, empowered? What are the benefits of choosing to process or produce your own food instead of buying it pre-processed?

Overwhelmed but new diet restrictions require it.  I have to do prep first thing in morning as I hate cooking in the heat.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

How difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?

Easy - just requires focus.  I take my own bags into the grocery.  Other stores I just refuse bags.  Now I need to add a collapsible bag to my purse.

I have gotten a ton of reusable bags from the free table over in horticulture. Keep an eye out if you are in the area!
