What are the benefits of switching to bamboo toothbrushes? How would you implore others in your community to make this switch as well?

There are over 7 billion people in the world, most of which brush their teeth with a typical plastic toothbrush. What is overlooked, however, is that most of these people go through several toothbrushes a year, equaling an incredible amount of waste in our oceans and landfills. Bamboo is actually naturally antimicrobial. (The same reason cutting boards are made from bamboo!) This means that theoretically, you won’t have to worry about bacteria growing in your toothbrush. The primary reason for using a bamboo toothbrush is that is a natural material that is biodegradable.

What are the economic and personal benefits of switching to bar soap/shampoo/conditioner or refillable bottle options?

I use all plastic-free soap/shampoo/conditioner bars and use a tin container to hold them in. One tin is less waste than throwing out bottles of shower supplies.

Working here at the zoo, there are more than often pieces of garbage on the ground due to many patrons here daily. As a show presenter, I try to implement conservation messages into every program I do. This includes making people aware of recycling and throwing out their trash.

What have you noticed about the economic and social impact of switching to steel razors? Was there ever really a need for disposable razors, or do you think it was just a way to sell more things?

Although steel razors may be more expensive initially, replacing disposable razors can add up and ultimately break your bank more than you may think. Steel razors are more durable, last longer, and you just replace the razor top rather than replacing the whole piece.
