I have been working on handmade reusable produce bags to replace the plastic ones that you get at the store. They're all pretty lightweight, some more than others, but you could also take the produce out of the bag if you're somewhere where you pay for it by weight.  A couple of them are acrylic yarn, but most are either 100% or a cotton blend. If you're at a WCS facility and want one, let me know and I'll interoffice to you (or walk it over if you're at the Bronx!)

If there's a lot of interest, I will send them to the people who have the most points in the Ecochallenge! I have one more that is almost done, so seven total.

If you want to make your own, let me know and I can share pattern links. They are all super easy!

Recently, I've been doing my own version of the "Fill a bag for $5" special that you see at flea markets and discount stores. When I find a plastic bag on the ground, I fill it up with trash until I see the next trash can. Then I toss it. It makes my walk to/from the train station more interesting, and better for the planet!

Work was so busy yesterday that I forgot to check in for the first time since I joined, but I'm back and ready to keep finding ways to keep plastic out of the environment!

It was a challenge to do zero plastic at the grocery store, but I managed to get out of there with just the plastic cap on my almond milk. I grabbed a couple of unpackaged large carrots that I'll cut up instead of getting a bag of baby carrots and got the brand of  peanut butter that comes in a glass jar.

I decided to pick up some litter on my way into work this morning. There is so much trash on the sidewalk in the Bronx, getting to five pieces was sadly easy. I'll need to up that number!
