REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Buy Unpackaged ProduceWhy do you think these produce products started amassing so much plastic packaging? Who is the plastic packaging really serving -- the consumer, the producer, or someone else?
Becky LedBetter 7/02/2019 4:37 AMI think plastic packaging probably originated with the idea that your food was safe from contaminants. It also makes it much easier for the supplier to handle and ship. Is someone making money off of all this plastic packaging? Of course they are! That's why shopping for produce at my local tailgate market or bringing my own produce bags for loose items is such a great alternative. I did notice, however, that even vendors at the tailgate market offer plastic bags! I think here in the U.S. consumers have been conditioned to have that service which is unnecessary.
