Joyce's actions
Family
Plastic Free Lunch Boxes
I will only pack reusable cutlery, drinkware and tupperware-like containers in my children's lunches to reduce plastic waste.
Lifestyle
Travel Smart
If traveling, I will bring my own plastic free items (water bottle, grocery bags, collapsible food containers, utensils, straws, etc.) with me.
Food
Minimize Packaging
I will purchase food items with the least amount of packaging.
Food
Skip the Straw
I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill per day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Food
Use Reusable Containers
I will only use reusable containers instead of single-use plastic storage items (such as plastic wrap, single-use sandwich bags).
Food
Buy Unpackaged Produce
I will purchase produce items without plastic packaging.

Joyce Javillonar 7/25/2019 8:41 AMWe've adopted a community garden plot and have been getting our salad staples from it this year. It's great to pick the produce ourselves and not have to buy pre-packaged stuff from the store (the squash is from the seed swap last Feb).-
Marie Vallee 7/31/2019 11:55 AMSeeing this beautiful squash grown from the seeds you got at the seeds swap is so rewarding! Thanks for sharing this!

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use Reusable ContainersHow can you think outside the box (or bag!) when it comes to disposables?
Joyce Javillonar 7/05/2019 9:21 AMMy 4-year-old daughter's new school asks for disposable lunch bags when they go on field trips or play at the park. Most kids bring their lunch in brown paper bags, which are opened up and used as placemats when the kids have their lunch. They also use it to clean up their mess. We often talk about caring for Mother Earth at home, and I think this is a good opportunity to talk to her about composting.
