What are the economic and personal benefits of switching to bar soap/shampoo/conditioner or refillable bottle options?

Refillable is cool. It uses less plastic, but still not zero. I don't like the bars, and conditioner ranks WAY higher on the list of importants and they don't make conditioner bars anyway.
