Mary's actions
Personal Care
Lather Up
I will replace my soaps, shampoos, and conditions with either a bar or refillable option.
Lifestyle
Travel Smart
If traveling, I will bring my own plastic free items (water bottle, grocery bags, collapsible food containers, utensils, straws, etc.) with me.
Lifestyle
Natural Fibers
When available, I will purchase clothing made with natural fibers, such as cotton, linen, or wool, rather than synthetic fibers.
Lifestyle
Buy Only What I Need
I will not buy anything except items required for health and safety.
Food
Skip the Straw
I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill per day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Food
Use Reusable Utensils
I will keep 3 plastic cutlery out of the landfill per day by using my own reusable cutlery.
Food
Cook a Zero-Plastic Waste Meal
I will prepare 1 meal(s) at home each day without using any items packaged in single-use plastic.
Food
Use Reusable Containers
I will only use reusable containers instead of single-use plastic storage items (such as plastic wrap, single-use sandwich bags).
Food
Advocate For More Food Packaging Options
I will advocate for alternatives to single use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, or work.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Mary Ghiorsi 7/28/2019 11:18 AMThis is terrible, and I can't believe I'm reporting it: Watching the news this morning, I saw reportage of the aftermath of a shooting in Brooklyn last night. One person was killed, twelve were injured. Truly horrendous. It happened during a neighborhood event, and it was sad, horrible, and every other bad adjective you can think of for a block party being visited by gun violence. But for a split second, when I saw the footage this morning of the scene the morning after, I thought, "Look at all those plastic cups." Shows how much this challenge has gotten into my head. -
Mary Ghiorsi 7/17/2019 5:39 AMLast week I bought a bar of shampoo (sorry, Pantene) and today I ordered 3 sets of etee reusable beeswax food wraps to use instead of plastic wrap. Baggies are going to be hard habit to break!
