Eric Friedman 7/25/2019 8:33 AMJust posted on neighborhood page re: cleanup and plastic trash audit that we'll be doing with other families this weekend. Watched a good documentary called Plastic Paradise (http://plasticparadisemovie.com/) with the kids last night to get them motivated (although they professed to be more bored than motivated). Also found a good guide to organizing a cleanup here: https://www.greenpeace.org/usa/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Plastics-Toolkit.pdf, which includes a way to submit results of our plastic trash audit, with the aim of learning what corporations are making the products that end up littered around the globe. -
Eric Friedman 7/24/2019 8:18 AMFound this nonprofit online -- https://4ocean.com/about/ -- which is raising money selling bracelets made from plastic removed from the ocean to fund more plastic removal from the oceans, with each bracelet supporting the removal of one pound of plastic. I think I'll order a couple at least for prizes for kids who participate in our neighborhood cleanup this weekend. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Watch a DocumentaryWhich documentary did you choose to watch? What did you learn?
Eric Friedman 7/17/2019 5:46 AMWatched Mission Blue about the oceanographer Sylvia Earle, who has seen a huge reduction in the amount of life in the ocean in her lifetime, due to overfishing and pollution. The film traces her impressive career and opens your eyes to how humans can impact even the vast oceans. Watched it with my son, who's trying out becoming a vegetarian right now, and this film made me want to either join him or further reduce my meat consumption, including fish. -
Eric Friedman 7/10/2019 11:34 AMNeed to get into the habit of packing reusable straws and possibly a cup when traveling for work or pleasure. That way we can continue to minimize use of plastic when away from home. -
Eric Friedman 7/01/2019 6:49 AMCan't believe it's July already. Added some more challenges and will try to get my kids and family involved, especially in the daily litter pickup and neighborhood cleanup effort. -
Eric Friedman 5/17/2019 11:20 AMJust wrote about the April EcoChallenge on our company's intranet and invited colleagues to join this next challenge in July. Hopefully we'll get a bunch of participants and can start engaging staff year-round in green activities.
