Create Your Own Action

Organize it!

I want to make a list of all the plastic-free or less-plastic items that I want to replace the one-time-use plastic items that I normally buy with. The list will include the brand, where to buy it/how to make it, how often it needs to be purchased, and any other data I may need moving forward. I envision this including links to recipes, etc.

A friend gave me some bar lotion from the same company where I guy bar shampoo and conditioner, and I really like it. Added it to my ongoing list of plastic-free resources.

Did my best at the grocery store today, but I'm frustrated with the amount of plastic that I ended up bringing home. But I did get produce and some bulk stuff without using any plastic, so that's at least a step in the right direction.

So I just calculated my plastic footprint, and my result was slightly higher than the average American. I hope this isn't true, because I've been working really hard to reduce my plastic usage. Maybe I overestimated something? They also said they assumed plastic consumption like soap and shampoo, which I've eliminated. Either way, it's an interesting tool and their partnerships are a great idea.

Also did some research on making my own yogurt. We eat a LOT of yogurt, and this seems like a great way to reduce our plastic consumption AND save a bit of money.

Was super happy this morning when I could put the wrappers that my coffee came in AND that my shampoo bar came in, straight into the compost! Won't it be nice when all packaging is biodegradable?

Went to Ingles today and was really happy to find their bulk section! Got a ton of peanuts to make my own peanut butter and some sea salt caramel chocolates similar to what we've bought from Trader Joe's before--only this time with no plastic container! Also got a plastic tub of wild rice that I plan on re-using for more bulk storage once we've used up the rice (I'm already running low on jars!).

Bought some bulk chickpeas the other day for a dinner recipe we frequently make, and realized here's another opportunity to eliminate some plastic--homemade hummus!
