REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Volunteer in my CommunityHow does volunteering enhance your community and/or change your relationship with it?
Linda Doll 7/25/2019 11:40 PMVolunteering in your community shows that you are willing to practice what you preach. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Naked BinsDoes changing the lining of your waste bin change the kind or amount of trash you produce?
Linda Doll 7/25/2019 11:38 PMThe kitchen trash can is the one that gets all the "gunk" dumped in it. I do not use a disposal, I compost the vegetable scraps outside. Meat, fat, bone, and liquid trash can be messy. Wrapping these items in paper that is already destined for the trash is a possibility, but not the total answer. One other note, grease from your skillet can be poured into a disposable cup that you may have gotten some time, rinsed and saved for such an occasion and then disposed of in your kitchen trash. This helps to contain liquid as long as it remains upright. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Cook a Zero-Plastic Waste MealDo an inventory of your kitchen to see how many single-use plastics you've used in the past. What are some resuable alternatives to these commonly used products? What would your impact be if you switched all the single-use products from your inventory to reusable?
Linda Doll 7/25/2019 11:30 PMI do not use very many single use products. i.e. plastic zip bags. I have glass storage containers. But I use a lot of plastic reusable containers. Yet, I wonder what the impact they are on our world even though they are used multiple times. The manufacture of those products and eventually disposed of when they break. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use Reusable ContainersHow can you think outside the box (or bag!) when it comes to disposables?
Linda Doll 7/25/2019 11:24 PMI prefer to use reusable containers for food storage, packed lunches, etc. Throwing plastic bags, etc in the trash does not feel right plus it fills up the trash can. Normally the two of us do not have a lot of trash to dispose of. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use Reusable BagsHow difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?
Linda Doll 7/25/2019 11:21 PMUsing the reusable bags (incidentally made of cotton and washable to keep them clean) at the grocery store is a habit I've done for many years. Not using plastic bags for purchases in other stores is not as easy to do. Mainly because usually I do not know how much or many items or size of my purchases at stores other than grocery stores. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Natural FibersWhat are the benefits (to people, animals, and the environment) of purchasing clothes made with natural fibers?
Linda Doll 7/25/2019 11:18 PMI have always liked and appreciated natural fibers such as cotton and wool. I am not allergic to wool and find it warm and breathable. Cotton is a natural fiber and is super comfortable to wear. Both wool and cotton are produced by farmers and ranchers. Purchasing these fibers supports these people who make their living in agriculture.
