REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Complete a Waste AuditWhat did you learn about the waste you create? Where can you reduce the most?
Lynn Cox 7/25/2019 6:09 AMI recycle a lot!!! I need to get that number down. Less packaging, more bulk. I reuse bags when I can to avoid getting new bags for produce! Stores have where you can weigh your items and then put a sticker on them. I weigh everything separately and get a label, then I reuse one bag for three/four different items. Instead of four separate plastic bags. -
Lynn Cox 7/25/2019 6:06 AMI need to have more focus!!! I feel as if I am not doing enough! I know I can do more!!! Life is very busy and convenience seems to be King, BUT I always carry my metal straws with me (my son hates drinking out of a glass, but loves his metal straw) and I carry water flavor drink mix as an alternative to my Monk fruit sweeteners. Being a diabetic, I would carry artificial sweetener packets for my unsweetened ice tea. Sometimes I would use five or six during one dinner. With the liquid flavor mixes, all that individual packaging is gone! One bottle will last a month! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Cook a Zero-Plastic Waste MealDo an inventory of your kitchen to see how many single-use plastics you've used in the past. What are some resuable alternatives to these commonly used products? What would your impact be if you switched all the single-use products from your inventory to reusable?
Lynn Cox 7/08/2019 6:38 AMI always try to avoid single use plastic and wash everything that I can. I pride myself on how much recycling I put out vs garbage at the curb. It's my goal to have more recycling or compostables vs. garbage! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Make Your OwnHow do you feel about being more involved in the food preparation process? Joyful, overwhelmed, engaged, empowered? What are the benefits of choosing to process or produce your own food instead of buying it pre-processed?
Lynn Cox 7/08/2019 6:37 AMI LOVE my garden, unfortunately the hail storm wiped it out this year! :( Growing your own always tastes better, wish I could do it all year long!-
Rachel Handbury 7/08/2019 7:42 AMand we love all of the tomato plants you give the staff each year to get us on the gardening path!

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Minimize PackagingWith the added mindfulness of reducing your packaging, what have you noticed about the amount and type of single use plastics used for packaging when you shop in the grocery store?
Lynn Cox 7/08/2019 6:36 AMI do notice that there is a LOT of single use plastic... How can we not have it? How do we convince a company to go back to the old ways, when it cost them money to do so... will they even listen?-
Rachel Handbury 7/08/2019 7:43 AMpurchasing power! and write emails/letters!
