  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Buy Unpackaged Produce
Why do you think these produce products started amassing so much plastic packaging? Who is the plastic packaging really serving -- the consumer, the producer, or someone else?

    Melissa Christner's avatar
    Melissa Christner 7/11/2019 4:50 PM
I think the plastic used for produce serves the producer and the consumer. Some people like it for the convenience and they say it keeps their produce fresh longer. The producer can also keep the produce fresher longer in plastic as well as reduce "contamination."

    Melissa Christner 7/11/2019 2:06 PM
I know I have helped me and my family be healthier by reducing toxins in the home. I am also proud to NOT be contributing to dumping any toxins in my drains or in the ocean.

    Lifestyle Naked Bins
Does changing the lining of your waste bin change the kind or amount of trash you produce?

    Melissa Christner's avatar
    Melissa Christner 7/11/2019 2:05 PM
Yes!!! I only put "dry" trash in my bin and I compost as much of everything else that I can.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Start Composting
Do an inventory of how much food waste you would save from going to the landfill if you start composting all of the time. What are the added benefits of having compost that is readily accessible?

    Melissa Christner's avatar
    Melissa Christner 7/11/2019 2:03 PM
Benefits of composting are a nutrient rich garden because of nutrient dense soil. It is full circle and I love that!

    Food Plant a Garden
Besides having access to fresh herbs and vegetables, what benefits will you see from growing your own garden?

Growing my own garden helps me with stress and it gets me outside in the sunshine which helps with depression. I also love watching the birds and bees!

I am able to control what is in my soil and what is on my food. I do all organic gardening and I never spray anything! In fact, I have a helpful opossum that visits my yard and eats bugs!
