Started a little box herb garden.  Basil, sage, thyme, and lemongrass to start.  I'd like to get some more!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Buy Unpackaged Produce
Why do you think these produce products started amassing so much plastic packaging? Who is the plastic packaging really serving -- the consumer, the producer, or someone else?

I think that at some point plastic packaging became associated with safety.  If it was packaged in plastic then it much be safe because it's protected.  Which has some merit and I'm sure in some instances it makes sense and is for the protection of the consumer.  I find it a little absurd for a product to be sealed with plastic wrap, it's box lined/coated in plastic and then having individually plastic wrapped items inside.  It seems overdone.  I think it's cheap and easy for the producer and as long as the consumer is still consuming the producer has little incentive to change packaging.
