Lifestyle Buy Only What I Need
As you have reduced your spending, what have you noticed about your 'health and safety' purchasing habits? How might this change your longer term purchasing decisions?

I've been pretty careful all along about how I spend. I don't get paid enough to just buy too many impulse items. With this commitment though I think harder about little things, like whether or not to toss in a pre-made (plastic wrapped) sandwich when I'm at the grocery store. Long term I don't think a lot will change because I already buy so little. I do think more about the pretty little cheap things that appeal to me, I ask myself, sure it's cute, but what will I do with it?

I've gone to having just an apple for a snack most days. I'm hoping it helps me lose a little weight besides reducing the trash I produce. I haven't yet lost any weight worth noting yet though.

I saw less trash this morning, possibly because one area that only gets mowed about once a month was mowed over the weekend and they may have done some trash pick up beforehand. I still had no trouble finding more than 3 pieces to pick up during my run.

Izzie is always there for me - I adopted her 10 years ago as a kitten from a shelter (through PetSmart's adoption program). She knows how to sit, give me her paw and stand up on her hind legs on command. She will also usually come when I call her.

I'm picking up more than 3 pieces of litter a day. It makes me sad that there is so much. I don't know how much difference what I'm doing will make, but I'll continue (including after the challenge because I was doing it before.)

I've posted pictures of my trash that I've picked up to both instagram and facebook, hoping to influence people to pick trash up as well. One or two have for sure, others have expressed interest.

How does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?

I do this almost everyday anyway - when I run I will often pick up all that I can carry in the last half mile or mile. It's really sad that there is so much trash I can find more than I can carry in such a short distance, but hopefully what I'm doing makes a difference. I usually pick up way more than 3 pieces of trash.
