Carol B
"I'm using this July to try to break some of my worst plastic-using habits. I often feel awkward refusing things like straws and I've never brought my own containers to restaurants, but those are a few of the things that I'm planning to tackle this month! "

Carol B 7/31/2019 3:53 PMSo sad this is the end! BUT i just had some lovely conversation with colleagues about the impact this challenge has had on their everyday actions and perspectives about plastic, its use, and their need for it going forward. <3 -
Carol B 7/31/2019 9:11 AMDay 31 is bittersweet! I feel good about my consistency with some things and disappointed about my miserly progress with other things. More than anything else, I'm feel positive about continuing these actions and taking on a bit more even after the challenge :) I'm proud of our little Teska Team! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Travel EatingWas this action easy or difficult to do? How did it change your travel experience?
Carol B 7/29/2019 9:08 AMIt was easy in some ways but harder in others. I was able to bring my own things, but I found that I was noticing just how difficult it is to get anything while traveling by plane that isnt wrapped or uses some type of single-use container. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use Reusables at WorkIt is often true that we only have control over our own actions and not the collective community. How can you lead by example when it comes to switching disposables for reusable dishes in your community?
Carol B 7/19/2019 8:18 AMI constantly go and grab reusable things and make it a point to voice that I'm looking for them, or choosing alternatives. I am working to normalize reuse in my work environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use Reusable BagsHow difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?
Carol B 7/19/2019 8:10 AMEasy because I make sure I always have a bag handy when I'm out and about and I've become more comfortable with being adamant that I "don't need a bag" if I really don't. Sometimes even a slightly precarious trip to the car and from the car to the house is still worth not adding yet another bag in my life. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care Back in the BowlWhy is it so difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places? How might your experience with this challenge impact your future consumption and choices?
Carol B 7/18/2019 9:12 AMbecause oftentimes we don't come into contact with those who are affected, especially animals and people in faraway places. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Skip the StrawHave you noticed a shift in your community as more messaging about reusable straws becomes mainstream? Cite some examples.
Carol B 7/18/2019 9:11 AMYes! For example I wanted to find an alternative to using disposal straws for boba tea and I easily found lots of options available online. -

Carol B 7/18/2019 9:04 AMHalfway through and I'm realizing some of my goals are just not gonna happen this month, for example I'm not buying makeup so I'm gonna switch it out!
