Michelle Alexander 7/31/2019 3:54 PMThis has been a great challenge and I look forward to carrying the things I have learned and new habits I have acquired throughout my life. I will also looking at joining a team where I work to take a larger role in promoting sustainability throughout the office. Super Excited! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care Just Say NoDo some research on polystyrene and polyvinyl. How many items in your house already contain these toxins?
Michelle Alexander 7/31/2019 7:34 AMWOW! I was completely surprised last night when we started to check the items in our home that contain polystyrene and polyvinyl not to mention all the items we were going to pick up at the store. We decided last night this was also getting added to our list of efforts. -
Michelle Alexander 7/30/2019 1:19 PMThere is only one more day in this challenge. I hope everyone will continue with their great efforts. If each of us just does a little something each day it does & will make a difference. I myself am starting a similar challenge with family & friends across the globe. I challenge each of you to do the same in your circle of family and friends or even your community! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care Brusha Brusha BrushaWhat are the benefits of switching to bamboo toothbrushes? How would you implore others in your community to make this switch as well?
Michelle Alexander 7/29/2019 7:29 AMOne great benefit to switching is that you do not have to worry about chemicals leeching from the plastic into your system. Also, these are less expensive, biodegradable and just look better than the plastic ones. -
Michelle Alexander 7/29/2019 7:18 AMInstalled our new pet composting system and got the enzymes all ready to start this new system in our backyard. -
Michelle Alexander 7/26/2019 9:06 AMI am finding that some of these changes in the way we do things are really much easier than expected. I have been spreading the word throughout our neighborhood as well as my family members & challenged them to do the same with a family and friends plastic free challenge. My family is so competitive I know they will do it! It will be fun to watch. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPets Try a Pet Shampoo BarIn what ways does your pet make your life happier, more interesting, or more rewarding?
Michelle Alexander 7/25/2019 2:33 PMThey always make the day brighter. The joy and unconditional love they provide us with tend to make the day's woes disappear. Ours also do not allow us to be lazy as we have to make sure they get their exercise. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Complete a Waste AuditWhat did you learn about the waste you create? Where can you reduce the most?
Michelle Alexander 7/24/2019 7:09 AMI have realized the majority of waste in our home comes from packaging. We have begun paying closer attention to the packaging of items we purchase and have reduced the waste in our home. Now I find myself looking for other areas we can reduce the waste. -
Michelle Alexander 7/22/2019 7:24 AMOur city has different sizes of trash cans that you can have picked up and each have a different cost. Our recycle & yard waste containers are both 60 gallon and are usually full at the time of pick up. We noticed our waste footprint has decreased in our home and we were able to downsize our trash can. This not only showed us we have been making progress in our efforts but it now also saves us money every month! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use Reusable ContainersHow can you think outside the box (or bag!) when it comes to disposables?
Michelle Alexander 7/19/2019 9:28 AMThe first step for my household will be to switch over from reusable plastic containers to glass ones. I have also noticed metal containers are making a come back. I intend to look into some of those for items in our home as well.
