It was an easy change. It was just a matter of awareness. When buying just a couple of items, I would not take a plastic bag but just carry the items out. I also carry cloth bags in car for when I purchase more items.

Using my waterbottle I avoided using 2 paper cups today.

From the Brita Filtration website - "Did you know that 2,000 plastic water bottles are used every second, or that a dump truck’s worth of plastic goes into our oceans every minute?" Spreading the cheer at other locations.  Challenged a few colleagues in S Plainfield to take on a similar challenge.  Let's see if we can get other sites to compete against us ;)

While shopping this past week I realized how much produce actually comes packaged in plastic.  Even the organic berries come in plastic clam shells.  I thought going to the Farmer's Market would be better, but they were pouring the berries out of their paper containers into plastic bags.  My solution, I have started saving all of the plastic...

It was really hard yesterday to meet any of the challenges.  It really make me think about how many plastic packaged foods/beverages are really out there and that we need to really evaluate how we prepare for entertaining.  How do you get away from bottled water at a picnic or BBQ?

I have made it a habit to travel with reusable shopping bags everywhere I go.  There is always at least 1 in my purse, in my car, and now in my laptop bag for work.

This year I swapped out the cases of bottled water for camp with re-usable stainless water bottles and I'm still using the same plastic bottle that I've had for 3 years.  This keeps at least 3 water bottles a day out of the landfills.
