REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use Reusable UtensilsHow can you be an advocate for using resusables instead of disposables for the rest of your community? Where are they currently dependent on disposable cutlery, and how can you convince them of the need for change?
Jenna Dodson 7/22/2019 7:43 AMOklahoma city metro has a lot of street festivals/outdoor bars with food trucks and vendors that use disposable cutlery. Encouraging the organizers of these events to provide compostable cutlery, work with Fertile Ground, push guests to bring their own silverware would be a great place to start. Many of the food trucks present at these events also have brick and mortar stores that this could be implemented in -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Skip the StrawHave you noticed a shift in your community as more messaging about reusable straws becomes mainstream? Cite some examples.
Jenna Dodson 7/09/2019 11:24 AMMore restaurants are starting to specifically ask if you would like a straw instead of automatically giving one, and I've also noticed some adding messaging on menus/table tents about their push to reduce plastic straw use. It is interesting that despite this, if someone does want to use a straw they are still giving plastic instead of paper/compostable -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use a Reusable Mug / Collapsible CupGreat job on getting rid of your disposable cup habit! How does it make you feel? What's next on your list to reduce your waste?
Jenna Dodson 7/05/2019 12:18 PMDRYER SHEETS! Not only are they filled the harmful chemicals, but are such a wasteful item. Wool dryer balls are a much better option as they can be reused, reduce dry time, and aren't packed with chemicals -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFamily Plastic Free Lunch BoxesMost of us know that the "3 R's" are reduce, reuse, recycle. Recycling is most heavily emphasized in modern Western culture. How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?
Jenna Dodson 7/02/2019 11:24 AMNeed to get better at refusing single use plastics--was starting a collection of unused straws and silverware from restaurants instead of telling them I didn't want/need those items. Change won't happen without consumers making producers aware of their wants & needs, so refusing these items is huge! -
Jenna Dodson 7/01/2019 2:45 PMExcited to get started and continue this habit of reducing, refusing, and reusing plastic!
