Julia Wolfe 6/12/2019 10:20 AMI am so exited for the plastic free challange to start. This is a great oppertunitity to limit our plastic and get our community to do the same -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Minimize PackagingWith the added mindfulness of reducing your packaging, what have you noticed about the amount and type of single use plastics used for packaging when you shop in the grocery store?
Julia Wolfe 6/11/2019 8:25 AMIt's kind of scary how much plastic is used for packaging food. One of the best ways to avoid buying foods with excessive packaging is buying in bulk. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use Reusables at WorkIt is often true that we only have control over our own actions and not the collective community. How can you lead by example when it comes to switching disposables for reusable dishes in your community?
Julia Wolfe 6/11/2019 8:23 AMFirstly, practice what you preach. Don't use disposable containers or dishes. Second, explain the benefits of reusable. And, try to convince people to bring their own dishes for parties, work, to-go food, etc. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPets Thrifty PetsHow does buying used differ from buying new? How does each purchasing decision make you feel?
Julia Wolfe 6/11/2019 8:16 AMWhen you but new it means that a whole other object was produced just for you. That is something that you could've saved by buying used.
Buy used! It's cheaper, and it saved materials that could be used for something better. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Volunteer in my CommunityHow does volunteering enhance your community and/or change your relationship with it?
Julia Wolfe 6/11/2019 8:12 AMVolunteering gives you an amazing opportunity to enhance your community by connecting with people you wouldn't have and by helping out organisations like the BioPark. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Skip the StrawHave you noticed a shift in your community as more messaging about reusable straws becomes mainstream? Cite some examples.
Julia Wolfe 6/07/2019 11:46 AMI have seen many people bringing reusable straws to restaurants. I've also seen people taking lids off of cups and simply not using a straw (REFUSE, reduce, reuse, recycle). -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Takeout ProHow could you mitigate issues that may arise if the restaurant does not want to let you use your own containers at first?
Julia Wolfe 6/07/2019 11:43 AMYou could explain how much plastic is ruining our earth and try to get them to understand the Eco Challenge. -
Julia Wolfe 6/07/2019 11:36 AMI can't wait for the Eco Challenge to start! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Keep My Community CleanHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Julia Wolfe 6/07/2019 11:35 AMFirstly, when people have a clean and beautiful neighborhood, they are more inclined to go outside. Secondly, you can have trash pick-up parties that encourage community building.
