Holly Windom 7/29/2019 8:45 AMThis weekend I used my first bamboo toothbrush. The handle is so soft and brush part is soft too. I loved it. Now I only got one but use to trash my brush every 6 months after a dental appt. I will buy another soon. Thanks for the coupon to " A Drop in the Ocean." I won it for checking in on the post. Awareness is still key in this plastic world. What are you using that is plastic and you have not even tried to replace it yet? -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care That Was a Close ShaveWhat have you noticed about the economic and social impact of switching to steel razors? Was there ever really a need for disposable razors, or do you think it was just a way to sell more things?
Holly Windom 7/25/2019 9:01 AMI have not make the which. Just investigating the options which are more expense. Need to finish off the large pack of plastic one first. Sorry!-
Jennifer Voss 7/29/2019 10:38 AMSame here! I still have a few left, so I'm looking forward to getting a steel one soon. It's easy to want to go out and buy all new "green" items, but is always better to use up what we have first

REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care Lather UpWhat are the economic and personal benefits of switching to bar soap/shampoo/conditioner or refillable bottle options?
Holly Windom 7/25/2019 8:58 AMThis is about refilling bottles. I have soap refillable bottles in my kitchen, 2 bathrooms, my laundry room and the garage (for outside use). I purchase the (green version) of soap due to healthier for environment even though not as much suds but clean as well and less toxic. Its a start to the benefits of sustainable living. Cost in low in bulk purchases too. -
Holly Windom 7/22/2019 11:26 AMLet talk about refillables! Is it so easy to refill soap bottle and clean products containers but beauty products take a little more thought. I would even say Shampoo and Conditioners can be purchased in bulk to refill but makeup. I'll still investigating this one. Help if anyone out there is doing something that I can consider.-
Mari-Lynn Flaig 7/25/2019 4:15 AMHi Holly,
I'm more drastic about makeup. I figured out that I spent about $100 per month on nail polish, lipstick, lip pencils, mascara, eyeshadow, eyeliner, rouge, foundations, and removers. When I quit using it 8 years ago, I diverted that to savings instead. I only wear makeup now for special events like weddings. I still use lotions and sunblock (I have to), but it reduces plastic and waste and gives me more money in my pocket to spend on other, more important things. I'm acne prone to this day and my skin tone has improved without all the nonsense on it. I'm not telling you to do that, but just consider a few things: instead of buying rouge, have your lipstick match your rouge by using the lipstick as rouge. My husband appreciates the less time I spend hogging the bathroom. Because I'm walking around without makeup, I find I actually feel more confident about myself (there's no one screaming while pointing at me before running off in terror).
I hope this helps you and I sincerely hope you have a great day!

REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care Brusha Brusha BrushaWhat are the benefits of switching to bamboo toothbrushes? How would you implore others in your community to make this switch as well?
Holly Windom 7/22/2019 11:21 AMWell first off it is a form of wood. You are able to recycle it. If you care at all about plastic you will change right away like I did. I change my brush every three month so if you do too. Go with Bamboo next time. -
Holly Windom 7/15/2019 11:03 AMThanks to this awareness session I won a 20% off coupon to this online store "a drop in the ocean shop.com". I purchase a couple of items and i'm awaiting the delivery. Excellent customer service and I will let you know if I love the products. Do something this week to clean up the space you are taking up on this planet. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care Pearly WhitesCurrently most of the packaging for toothpaste is plastic. How can you advocate for more alternatives through your purchasing power and influence in community?
Holly Windom 7/10/2019 5:31 AM
It is easier than you think be aware of what you purchase and from who? Yes natural organic products cost more but the end result is worth it. Change one thing in your life at a time try laundry wash to natural, then all your house holds paper, napkins, towel, toilet paper. Make a different can start out small. I did. Changing toothpaste was a big move. Jars would not always easy to fine then I realized I was shopping at big box stores and need to be a more health awareness stores.-
Kristin Bloser 7/11/2019 8:49 AMThat's great Holly! Have you seen the new toothpaste pods that use a plant-derived cellulose film to surround the paste? I haven't purchased yet because I need to finish my other toothpaste first.

Holly Windom 7/10/2019 5:24 AMI did not always recycle and i do think it starts here. We need to be very aware of our waste. Making more of an effort even before we buy something an how it is and where it is turned to trash. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Raise Money For a NonprofitWhat are organizations in your region doing to address plastic pollution or other related issues? How can you support them?
Holly Windom 7/10/2019 5:22 AM"PepsiCo, Coca-Cola, Procter and Gamble, Danone, Unilever, and Dow are committed to funding the $90 million investment, and Circulate Capital says a deal will be inked by early 2019. The firm says they are also working on ways for medium and small companies to invest.
“While we are working hard to ensure our packaging is designed to be circular, the reality is that it cannot be reused, recycled or composted without effective waste management systems in place,” said Danone's Katharina Stenholm in a press release." By being an informed consumer I support these companies. -
Holly Windom 7/05/2019 6:36 AMI love peppermint and lavender soaps. I stop buying soap that was not made with a natural ingredient years ago. My skin thanks me and so do my drain. I have a lot less drain clog with using natural products and I smell good too.
