Lia Wilson 7/24/2019 5:12 AMThis past weekend, I tried something different with my favorite barista - I brought my own cups and had her fill them instead of using her single-use cups. She didn't bat an eye when I asked her to do that, so I'm sure she has other customers who do the same. In a way, it's a win-win for her and for the planet - she doesn't have to pay for those cups and I'm not throwing them out after just one use.
This challenge has made me more aware of not only the single-use plastic containers, but single-use containers in general that we use then toss out without a thought to the impact on our planet. I'm not perfect in what I do, but even these little things can cumulatively make a difference. And now imagine what would happen if everyone did a small something... -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Minimize PackagingWith the added mindfulness of reducing your packaging, what have you noticed about the amount and type of single use plastics used for packaging when you shop in the grocery store?
Lia Wilson 7/19/2019 10:31 AMI've noticed there's a mind-boggling amount of single-use plastic, and it's all for the sake of convenience. It helps remind me that my convenience is not more important than our planet and its survival. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPets All Natural Pet ToysIn what ways is supplying your pet with all natural pet toys better for your pet, better for you, and better for the environment?
Lia Wilson 7/16/2019 7:15 AMFirst and foremost, I don't have to worry about what chemicals are going into their system. Secondly, I know that what I'm giving them is better for the planet in general. Third, I take comfort in knowing that I'm helping make things better instead of worse. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFamily Natural PaintsHow do environmental health, community health, and your family's health intersect?
Lia Wilson 7/16/2019 7:13 AMI grew up with a grandfather who was well ahead of his time when it came to being mindful of the environment and our impact on it. Each year, I've learned and seen how the environment in which I live impacts my health and the health of those around me. I also understand what I do (or don't do) impacts others, so I try to be mindful of this. It's a daily challenge, but one that is important if we want our planet to survive.
