There has been a noticeable shift in my community towards the use of straws and the impact they have on the environment.  Restaurants like Snappy Salad uses only paper straws in all their stores, which I appreciate.  Several restaurants I visit ask if you want a straw rather than assuming you do.   I've noticed more and more retail stores like Walmart and Container Store are selling reusable straws (stainless steel) and environmentally friendly straws (bamboo).  I carry a reusable, stainless steel straw with me all the time.
