REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Visit the ButcherHow has using your own containers impacted the quality of the food you receive? Does this give you more awareness of where your food comes from as opposed to just grabbing a package of mystery origin cheese/meat?
Amanda Waddle 7/25/2019 12:17 PMI brought my own reusable container to Fresh Market and asked if they can slice 10 slices of provolone cheese and place it in my container and they did, happily, with no weird faces or looks of confusion. -
Amanda Waddle 7/10/2019 2:14 PMI met with Commissioners Ward and Warren (separately) to get and update on the straw ban they are working on and remind them how important it is for the city to begin their waste audit and then do the strategic plan for zero waste. I also asked the all city events work towards zero waste and not use any single-use plastics. In May, just 2 months ago at Mayor Poe and Commissioner Hayes-Santos swearing in ceremony there were plastic utensils and plastic cups used!!! All city events/building need to lead the way and set the zero waste example. They agree that this needs to be done. All city buildings including city hall should begin working towards zero waste and I am also pushing for that. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Travel ToiletriesWhat is the benefit of using bar soaps or refilling your travel sized containers? Is this an action you think you will keep in your life?
Amanda Waddle 7/07/2019 8:02 AMWe traveled with refillable Plain products travel shampoo and conditioner and used that. We also brought a small bar of soap. One hotel in Scotland had refillable shampoo/body wash in the hotel bathroom!! YAY!! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Travel EatingWas this action easy or difficult to do? How did it change your travel experience?
Amanda Waddle 7/07/2019 8:00 AMWe didn't get any take out food in London or Scotland. We dined in and everywhere we ate used real silverware/plates/glasses. We said no straws please in the beginning but then realized everywhere we went only gave out straws on demand and they were all paper. I did not see a plastic straw in London or in any city in Scotland. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLifestyle Travel SmartHow can/did you prepare to be successful in this action? Did you engage in conversation with anyone about your new habit?
Amanda Waddle 6/25/2019 11:08 AMWe are taking a family vacation internationally and we are packing now. In April I went to a sustainability workshop where one of the speakers is the head of Travel without Plastic so I was able to ask her about our upcoming trip. https://www.travelwithoutplastic.com/
I have the refill app to locate places to refill our water bottles. We are taking as many zero waste items we can to avoid single-use plastics during our trip.
