Kristin's actions
Community
Visit A Waste Management Facility
I will visit a local dump/transfer station, material recovery facility, and/or landfill to learn about the waste stream.
Food
Visit the Butcher
I will purchase meats and cheeses from the deli counter or a butcher shop, and use my own containers to do so.
Lifestyle
Complete a Waste Audit
I will conduct a waste audit - including recyclables and compost - to understand how much waste I create and where I can reduce the most.
Community
Share My Actions
I will make my environmental actions visible by posting to my social media networks.
Community
Keep My Community Clean
I will pick up 3 piece(s) of litter each day.
Lifestyle
Watch a Documentary
I will watch a documentary film about waste with family and friends and talk about what we learned.
Personal Care
Fresh as a Daisy
I will use deodorant either from a bar or a jar or I will make my own.
Personal Care
Lather Up
I will replace my soaps, shampoos, and conditions with either a bar or refillable option.
Personal Care
That Was a Close Shave
I will replace my disposable razors with steel razors. Why not try using hair conditioner instead of shaving foam for that baby smooth feel?
Food
Cook a Zero-Plastic Waste Meal
I will prepare 1 meal(s) at home each day without using any items packaged in single-use plastic.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.

REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care That Was a Close ShaveWhat have you noticed about the economic and social impact of switching to steel razors? Was there ever really a need for disposable razors, or do you think it was just a way to sell more things?
Kristin VanBuskirk 7/23/2019 8:54 AMI really like my steel razor so far, and haven't cut myself much at all. I do need to figure out the best medium to use other than a bottle of shaving cream. I am planning to try using bar conditioner as this was recommended by one of my teammates! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care Lather UpWhat are the economic and personal benefits of switching to bar soap/shampoo/conditioner or refillable bottle options?
Kristin VanBuskirk 7/09/2019 7:24 AMI have been using bar soap rather than liquid soap for showers for a long time, and have noticed that bar soap tends to last longer than liquid. I just made the switch from liquid to bar soap at the bathroom sink since beginning plastic free July. I'm not sure why I hadn't thought of that before! -
