Marie's actions
Lifestyle
Travel Smart
If traveling, I will bring my own plastic free items (water bottle, grocery bags, collapsible food containers, utensils, straws, etc.) with me.
Personal Care
Pearly Whites
I will purchase toothpaste in an aluminum tube or in a glass jar or make my own!
Lifestyle
Watch a Documentary
I will watch a documentary film about waste with family and friends and talk about what we learned.
Lifestyle
Travel Eating
If traveling, I will bring my own airplane snacks and eat at local restaurants to avoid take-out containers.
Food
Skip the Straw
I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill per day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Food
Cook a Zero-Plastic Waste Meal
I will prepare 1 meal(s) at home each day without using any items packaged in single-use plastic.
Food
Minimize Packaging
I will purchase food items with the least amount of packaging.
Food
Plant a Garden
I will plant an herb or vegetable garden in my home, workplace, or community garden

Make Your Own
I will try new recipe(s) or food preparation method(s) each day, such as canning, pickling, making yogurt, or baking granola bars or bread.

Marie Vallee 7/04/2019 11:10 AMI cooked a zero-landfill waste meal today with rice and buckwheat bought in bulk in our homemade fabric bags, zucchini from our garden cooked with garlic, shallots, thyme from our garden, and sausages bought in paper packing and melon for desert. The only waste generated besides vegetable scraps that are compostable was the paper in which the sausages were packed. -
Marie Vallee 7/04/2019 11:03 AMMy daughter and I used our steel straw today! 2 plastic straw saved! -
Marie Vallee 7/04/2019 11:01 AMI spent some time 2 days ago harvesting garlic and shallots I planted last October. Then I learnt on the internet how to best preserve them (with plastic-free methods of course!). I think my family (I have 3 kids) will be self-sufficient in garlic and shallots for 1 year! Which means one full year of plastic-free organic extremely local garlic and shallots for us! Also I do all my garden without buying any soil in plastic bags. I love it! -
Marie Vallee 7/04/2019 10:52 AMI spent some time yesterday checking on Youtube how to make my own tofu, and more importantly how to cook it to make it taste good (let's be honest, tofu has no taste at all if not prepared properly ;-))
