Terrie's actions
Family
Provide the Alternatives
I will provide daily plastic free alternatives (straws, water bottles, cuttlery, bar soap, bamboo toothbrushes, etc.) for my family to use.
Food
Skip the Straw
I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill per day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.

Terrie Thompson 7/27/2019 10:01 PMI'm excited about tomorrow's ice cream social at RPZ because I'm bringing my own bamboo (reusable) cutlery and a collapsible measuring cup as my "ice cream dish." No plastic plates or paper plates going into the landfill tomorrow! -
Terrie Thompson 7/24/2019 5:10 PMMy husband and I now carry a week's supply of stainless steel straws in our backpacks (how hard is that? not!) and we have rediscovered the Soap Dish. Ha! Guess what everyone on my Christmas list is getting this year? (Hint: A lovely soap dish with a nice bar and a note: "Happy holidays! Here's to starting the new year with a little less plastic!") -
Terrie Thompson 7/16/2019 6:52 PMStarted to carry my portable bamboo cutlery today! I used it for lunch and will continue to carry it in my backpack for future lunches or snacks when out and about. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Skip the StrawHave you noticed a shift in your community as more messaging about reusable straws becomes mainstream? Cite some examples.
Terrie Thompson 7/14/2019 7:27 PMLast weekend, the waitress at my breakfast was happy I refused a straw, and the check out person at a drive-through said, "Awesome!" when I refused a straw. Even the people who are required to give us straws are pleased that people are changing their habits! -
Terrie Thompson 7/10/2019 5:33 PMAfter 10 days, it's starting to feel more like a daily habit--it's getting easier to remember to do the right thing! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFamily Provide the AlternativesWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) does your family regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Terrie Thompson 7/03/2019 8:56 PMNo more straws or plastic grocery bags! We will use stainless steel straws and cloth bags. Yes!!
