REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Buy Unpackaged ProduceWhy do you think these produce products started amassing so much plastic packaging? Who is the plastic packaging really serving -- the consumer, the producer, or someone else?
Andrea Tassinari 7/31/2019 2:37 PMPeople are afraid of other people's germs and having everything in plastic provides a barrier that feels safe by making the consumer believe that the produce is more sanitary. Who knows how many times my apple was manhandled, dropped, and licked before I bought it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Use Reusable UtensilsHow can you be an advocate for using resusables instead of disposables for the rest of your community? Where are they currently dependent on disposable cutlery, and how can you convince them of the need for change?
Andrea Tassinari 7/31/2019 2:30 PMAll of my workplaces use disposable cutlery. It is believed that it is easier, cheaper, and more sanitary than real utensils; no one wants to spend the time washing dishes or have the water running all the time. The hard part would be convincing them otherwise and getting around these issues. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care Tim Taylor Your Beauty ProductsHomemade makeup is a practice which has been done in community for thousands of centuries as many indigenous women relied on plants for their bright make up. How can you incorporate that sense of community as you embark on a similar pursuit?
Andrea Tassinari 7/31/2019 2:24 PMI've made a few things and shared them with my friends and family. A few people told me I should start my own Etsy. People like that the glass bottles make the product seem more valuable and fancy. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Join a Cleanup EffortHow does working with others to clean up your community make you feel?
Andrea Tassinari 7/31/2019 2:20 PMI had a great time on a really hot morning cleaning up the beach with others from the New England Aquarium! Working together, we CAN make a difference. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Keep My Community CleanHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Andrea Tassinari 7/31/2019 2:14 PMI snagged a ratty plastic bag that was about to blow over the railing and into the harbor. A guy driving by saw me grab it and throw it away and he honked at me with thumbs up.
