My husband and I will find a new way to collect scooped kitty litter to eliminate the use of plastic bags.
Family
Provide the Alternatives
I will provide daily plastic free alternatives (straws, water bottles, cuttlery, bar soap, bamboo toothbrushes, etc.) for my family to use.
Pets
Invest in a Pooper-Scooper
I will swap out my single use plastic bags for a pooper-scooper.

Fresh as a Daisy
I will use deodorant either from a bar or a jar or I will make my own.
Family
Discover Together
I will spend 20 minutes educating my family on the basics of living a reduced/no-plastic lifestyle.

Travel Smart
If traveling, I will bring my own plastic free items (water bottle, grocery bags, collapsible food containers, utensils, straws, etc.) with me.
Food
Cook a Zero-Plastic Waste Meal
I will prepare 1 meal(s) at home each day without using any items packaged in single-use plastic.

I will visit rePurpose website, complete the 3-minute plastic consumption calculator, and explore how I can reBalance my annual plastic footprint.

REFLECTION QUESTIONPersonal Care Fresh as a DaisyDo some research on the toxic side affects of aluminum deodorant. After reading the side effects, can you think of instances where you may have experienced the side effects from this form of deodorant?
Marisa Tardiani 7/29/2019 6:43 AMSo far so good. Three days into my new natural sensitive skin deodorant in a jar and no irritation. I actually still smell good (I think) so far as well :) -
Marisa Tardiani 7/26/2019 7:02 PMI finally gpt takeout at Thai All Seasons and brought my own Tupperware and reusable bag. They were very accomodating and had no problem filling my tupperware. I was even acknowledged and thanked my another patron. It was a great experience!-
Colleen MacDonald 7/28/2019 7:02 AMI'm so proud of you grasshopper! I wish I could just remember to bring a container with me for takeout and for leftovers at a restaurant. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Minimize PackagingWith the added mindfulness of reducing your packaging, what have you noticed about the amount and type of single use plastics used for packaging when you shop in the grocery store?
Marisa Tardiani 7/17/2019 7:44 PMSome things I never thought about before. Such as buying potatoes in a plastic bag. I had never considered the impact of this. Now I do :) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFamily Swap the SnacksHow does swapping out prepackaged snacks for fresh fruit or veggies benefit your family?
Marisa Tardiani 7/16/2019 6:48 PMI have definitely been eating healthier by making sure that I buy more fruits and less packaged snacks :) -

Marisa Tardiani 7/12/2019 1:11 PMOne of the recommendations is to make your own pet food but please be careful if you choose to do this and work with a veterinary nutritionist. This article is about Diet Related DCM and there is a link to a veterinary nutritionist if needed.

Marisa Tardiani 7/12/2019 12:49 PMThis week I took a long time walking through the grocery store focusing on how products are packaged. Buying plastic free products is very hard but making regular mental notes of what products come in non-plastic packaging makes a big difference. Being aware is the first step. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFamily Provide the AlternativesWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) does your family regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Marisa Tardiani 7/06/2019 8:22 AMWe have instituted the use of reusable straws, coffee cups, Keurig cups (saves so much money too!) and bamboo toothbrushes. We already buy soap, etc in bulk but these items are next on my list to find more sustainable packaging solutions! -
Marisa Tardiani 7/05/2019 11:30 AMWe have three cats and have eliminated the need for plastic bag disposal of kitty litter with a new bucket system! We are keeping a small bucket by the cat litter to scoop the waste into and then emptying that into a bucket with a lid in the basement. This is then added to our weekly waste once, eliminating all of the bags in between.
